Bellaire is located in Harris County and is one of Houston's original suburbs. Founded in 1908 by William Wright Baldwin, Bellaire began as a small farming community and quickly grew into a residential neighborhood with the help of Houston's historical trolley system. Bellaire's Paseo Park proudly displays a trolley car from that era.

Houston's world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC) is less than four miles from Bellaire. The 42 non-profit member institutions of the TMC uphold the highest standards of patient and preventive care, research, education and local, national and international community wellness. TMC institutions include 13 hospitals, two specialty institutions, two medical schools and four nursing schools with schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy and virtually all health-related careers. TMC created the first air emergency service and developed a highly successful inter-institutional transplant program. Currently, more heart surgeries are performed at TMC than anywhere else in the world. The comfort of medical expertise and accomplishment is in Bellaire's back yard.

Residents value the many parks in the city limits and engage in a variety of recreational and cultural activities in the large Bellaire Community Center. One of Bellaire's proudest achievements was when the 2000 Bellaire Little League All-Stars won the United States Little League Championship and went on to compete in the Little League World Series. The many ballparks in the city as well as the commitment of local volunteers and coaches bolster such an accomplishment.

Bellaire has an excellent public school system at all grade levels. Bellaire's High School is a Houston Independent School District (HISD) magnet school for foreign languages and part of the International Baccalaureate Program. In addition, Bellaire High School consistently produces the highest number of National Merit Finalists of any high school in the district. The baseball team has won several state championships. There are several private schools available to Bellaire residents including Bellaire Christian Academy, Saint Agnes Academy, and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. There are also plenty of nearby resources for higher education including: Houston Community College System, The University of Houston, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, The Texas Medical Center (see above), Rice University, Texas Southern University and more.

With its small-town sense of community, historical preservation and the cultural milieu that nearby Houston has to offer, Bellaire is the location for those who wish to work and/or play in the "big city," but want to return home to a peaceful neighborhood.
